 Error msg: Not enough memory...
I am new in this forum, so maybe my question is not new, but I couldn't
find about it:

Our application is written in D2 and uses BDE 4.53. Frequently it
messages: "Not enough memory for this operation", when trying to open a
query. It doesn't matter if the query goes to a dBase, Paradox, Acces,
or any other database system.

I tried a lot of BDE alias manipulation, but nothing helped. Any idea?

You may need to alter some BDE system settings. On the Configuration tab of
the BDE Administrator, Open Configuration, System. You probably want to
increate the INIT settings MAXBUFSIZE and SHAREDMEMSIZE.

If you increase sharedmemsize and then the error changes to BDE error $210D
"shared memory conflict" you will need to assign sharedmemlocation also.
I've just been through this ; if you have problems email me, I have a "find
free memory in current process address space" component.

Cheers,
Craig.

I increased MAXBUFSIZE and SHAREDMEMSIZE, but the error is still there. I
increased both values step by step from 2048 up to 16536. The funny thing is
that the error is not always present, but I cannot see on what it depends.

It does  n o t  depend on killing the application from the IDE by using Ctrl-F2

- end-users of my app (which obviously do not start the program from the IDE)
get this error too. I also cannot see any dependency on size of the database or

other active applications running in background. Restarting Windows (or even
rebooting the computer) normally does not help (but sometimes and unexpectedly
it does!)

Could you give any advice?

Thanks in advance
Dino

Have you tried increasing the size of your virtual memory?

When running on Win95/98, users have normally set the Virtual Memory option to
let Windows choose the best virtual memory size. I think this is ok, and BDE
should assign as much memory as needed, and Windows should give it to BDE.

Are you creating new tQueries each time, and if so, are you releasing the
ones you don't need?
