 msdn docs drive me nuts, help find CDaoTableDef connect string format description

need help finding info regarding CDaoTableDef.Create( ...
lpszConnect )

the ***lpszConnect*** string format/content description ???

everytime i get close to some doc it never says here is the
format and possible parameters ? the best i've done is piece
a bit together from example code.

E.G.
      lpszConnect =  "<database connect ?> ; prop_1=val;
prop_2= val ; ....."

what are valid <database connection>  values ? where is the
list ?
what are legal  property_1,2,3 etc ? where to find ?

TIA
rob

I hate to point you back to the docs, but look at the DAOTABLE sample that
comes with MSDN.  It should answer all your questions.  But in general, you
only need the connect string if you need to provide parameters (such as a
password) to the driver.

hey robm...

I don't know what exactly your asking, but if you refer to the following
link, it will give you all the information you need for
CDaoTableDef::Create.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vcmf...
l/_mfc_cdaotabledef.3a3a.create.asp

Hope It Helps Anyway, if not then what exactly are you looking for...

or if you want to connect to ODBC source or some external
format i.e. ( ISAM database) ?

if the info is there i welcome the pointer :)
i've scoured the MSDN Doc in the way i am a-customed to to
find those obscure details that MS likes to bury in the text
or simply hint at  in a note or at the end of the doc...

i keep following references / links (drilling) in the DAO
sections getting closer to the **Connect String** format and
legal identifiers only to get re-routed to some overview
where i started

MS E.G. from DaoTableDef:

A table-type recordset represents a base table (a table in a
Microsoft Jet (.MDB) database) in code. You cant open a
table-type recordset on an ODBC database or on an attached
table, but you can open one on an ISAM database opened
directly, such as a FoxPro, dBASE or Paradox database.

So... how to open a "Paradox 3.0 database" ? What connect
String do i use and where are the docs describing all the
possible parameters to pass ? that is the question.

i've tried this as sample but it gives exceptions at  ==>
db.Open(...);
i presume my

CDaoWorkspace ws;
CDaoDatabase db( &ws );

db.Open("c:\\temp\\database", FALSE, FALSE, _T("") ); //
open paradox data files folder

printf( "Table Count :  %d.\n", db.GetTableDefCount() );  //
number of tables

Thanks again
rob

in the docs the closest i get to the info is the following
ordered links
these should direct you to a page with more details and
examples other than ODBC but do not ????

Close here tells what ypu can do:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/e
n-us/vccore98/HTML/_core_dao_external.3a_.working_with_exter
nal_data_sources.asp

then next level of detail gives this (which only shows ODBC)

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/e
n-us/vccore98/HTML/_core_dao_external.3a_.attaching_external
_tables.asp

TIA

thnks for help

MS Docs say you can open table type recordset  on an ISAM
database opened
directly, such as a FoxPro, dBASE or Paradox database.

So... my question is how to open say a "Paradox 3.0
database" ?
 What connect string do i use and where are the docs
describing all the
possible parameters to pass ?

if using ODBC you do something like

CDaoDatabase db;
db.Open( "c:\\temp\\database",
                 FALSE, FALSE,

               _T("ODBC;UID=Joe;Pwd=jungle;DSN=animals;") );

i've tried following as sample but it gives exceptions at
==>
db.Open(...); i presume my connect stirng is incorrect

CDaoWorkspace ws;
CDaoDatabase db( &ws );

// open paradox data files folder
db.Open("c:\\temp\\dbfiles", FALSE, FALSE, _T("") );    //
*** Exception
db.Open("c:\\temp\\dbfiles", FALSE, FALSE, _T("Paradox") );
// *** Exception
db.Open("c:\\temp\\dbfiles", FALSE, FALSE,
_T("Paradox;UID=;PWD=;") );  // *** Exception

// print number of tables
printf( "Table Count :  %d.\n", db.GetTableDefCount() );

Thanks again
rob
