 VB6, ADO and DAO...
Hi, I'm a newbie in VB and I have a question? Does VB6 still have DAO or it
has been completely replaced by ADO? I mean, can I use DAO in VB6 to create
a front end application to access an Access97 database? What happend if I
open in VB6 an application writen in VB5 that uses DAO and I try to compile
it in VB6?

Thanks alot for the help.

Max,

VB3 was the last VB version with data access 'built into' VB.  Starting with
VB4 data access and similar services are provided as ActiveX libraries which
you hook into via Projects/References on the menubar.

To answer your question, yes DAO is still alive, well and usable.  And it's
unlikely recompiling a VB5 app with VB6 should cause problems--caveat having
correct references.

DAO will be around for quite some time untill the ADO tools will fully develop.
I myselft preffer using ADO over DAO the tools are a lot more simpler and they
still get the job done.

Max,

You may have a problem if you recompile a VB 5.0 app that has
been distributed and you recompile in 6.0 and redistribute. if
you did not choose the option upon setup of your VB 6.0
program to retain all of your VB 5.0 DLL's VB6.0 will overwrite
the existing DLL's.  Your major problems will be with ODBC and
connection objects.
