 ADO help

ppl, i need some guide here.My program concerning adding data and retrieving
data from microsoft access 2000 database file. When i code i add the
reference for microsoft activex data objects 2.0 library. The connection that
i made to the access file is by codes, something like below..

dim cn as new adodb.connection
dim a as recordset
..
cn.open

.....

something like stated up there..everything works fine..I would like to know
is there any difference if i add the reference of microsoft activex data
objects 2.5  or 2.1 instead of 2.0?? is the one i'm using ADO2.0 that i
added is enough for accessing MsAccess2000 db?..and also wat's the
advantages/disadvantages (briefly) to my case of each version of ADO.The
database file that i'm accessing is stored locally.

After i finish coding..i package my application using factory setup. It
determines everything finely and prompt me to add MDAC_typ.exe besides the
vb runtimes..i believe that the mdac_type is microsoft data access version
2.0,...everything fine when i test this intallation under my windows 98 se
with don't have MsAccess installed.i used it as test machine onli..I would
like to know anyone has encountered any problem b4 wtih this factory setup
software? I'm just feel a little paranoid..as i need to hand up my setup
files..by this weekend and don't want other user to have prob installing my
program.

Thanks,
Jenny

I STRONGLY recommend that you just upgrade to MS Active X Data Objects
2.5 Libarary and don't worry about what or why. I use Jet 4.0 and
MSDAORA providers to exchange information between local and networked
Excel '97 workbooks, Access '97, Access 2000 and Oracle 8i database and
tables. I use ADO Ext 2.5 for DLL and Security to create Access
databases and Excel workbooks on-the-fly. My programs are installed on
Win95, Win98, Win NT and Windows 2000 machines.

If you need to know what's and why's, start checking the following MS
references:

ADO Programmers Reference http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp-
?url=/library/en-us/ado270/htm/mdmscmicrosoftadoprogrammersreference.asp

ADOX API Reference http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/l-
ibrary/en-us/ado270/htm/admscadoapireference.asp

MS knowledgebase http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp

MS Downloads http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?

now i've set the reference in my project to MS Active X Data Objects to 2.1,
i tried package it using setup factory again, this time it didn't prompt me
to add the mdac_type.exe. Why is this happening?

Don't use ADO 2.1.  There is a bug there.  Go to 2.5 or 2.6.

Use the Deployment Wizard in VB 6 to create your Setup.

Regards, Graham.
