 DAO app installation problem
Hi.
I'm trying to make installation of my DAO based app.
I did everything they say to do in daosetup.rtf document
BUT when trying to start my app (just installed) I have
Error message box:

The Jet VBA file failed to initialize when called. Try reinstalling the
application that returned the error.

Can anybody help?

 DAO app installation problem

Andis,

I hope you're not using WinNT :-)

I've encountered this problem and I think (although I really don't know for
sure) that it's related to using one Windows version to compile the app and
another to run it. In this case, the "a" and "b" revisions to Windows are
in my opinion the cause. Apparently, when using the VB setup wizard from
the "a" (or plain-vanilla) version of win95 and then installing to a "b"
machine, some files are not updated. What we did was to manually copy the
following files from an "a" machine to a "b" machine:

in \Windows\System

MSJET35.DLL
MSJINT35.DLL
MSJTER35.DLL
MSRD2X35.DLL
MSREPL35.DLL
VBAJET32.DLL
VBAR332.DLL

And in the \Program Files\ Common Files\ Microsoft Shared\DAO copy

Dao350.dll

There was one instance where this did not work, but after some panic I
decided to do the sensible thing: copy all the automation DLLs to the "b"
machine from mine:

OLE2CONV.DLL
OLEAUT32.DLL
OLEDLG.DLL
OLEMSG.DLL
OLEPRO32.DLL
OLESVR.DLL
OLESVR32.DLL
OLETHK32.DLL

Of course, this is all done in the blind; I never knew what exactly fixed
it, but it did. Make sure all programs are closed if you have to copy the
OLE files, and keep in mind that this might have unwanted side effects,
such as having to reinstall Windows :-(

Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend doing this in Win98. But, if you are
desperate enough, you could give it a shot.
