Help: ADO 2.5 XML works, ADTG doesn't with persisted recordsets

Hi all,

I just started converting an application from DAO to ADO 2.5.  I use a class
module (that will later be converted into a separate component on our
server) to access an Access 97 database.  The class reads the data from the
database and persists it in XML format to a stream object.  The calling
function then converts the stream object into a recordset and uses it
appropriately.

The user can then modify the data and return the updated recordset as a
stream to the class.  The class then recreates the recordset and calls the
.UpdateBatch method to update the database.  All of this works great as long
as I use adPersistXML when I save to the stream objects.

The problem is when I try and use ADTG instead of XML format.  Most of our
users are still on IE 4.0, so I don't have access to the XML drivers (I get
an error when I try to run the code).  I thought I could just switch to ADTG
format, and everything works well until it is time for the .UpdateBatch
call.  I get an error that says I have insufficient base table data to do
the update.

Is there a big difference between using XML and ADTG?  I thought they were
pretty much interchangeable.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks in advance
for the help!
