I'm using symbolic links for both $ORACLE_HOME and $APPL_TOP(Oracle
application home) with 7.3.4/8.0.4 and 10.7/11.0.1.

No problem at all.

Sun Solaris 2.5.1/Sun Enterprise 3000.

I have 2 instances(prod/dev) on the same server and don't have enough
space to put everything under the same partition(say
/u01/app/oracle/product) so I s linked the dev from someplace else. So
my $ORALCE_BASE can still be /u01/app/oracle. For past 2 years
everything is OK.

HTH.
