 Oracle Portal vs Novell Portal
Im looking at these two for an Intranet solution.
Being that this is an Oracle newsgroup, can someone please
tell me the advantages of Oracle over Novells portal products?

Also, is Web DB better than Coldfusion? Or vice versa?

Appreciate any input! thx

I can't give you a definitive answer, but our experience with ColdFusion's
tech support has been poor.  If you seriously consider the product, try
phoning support a few times before you buy and see what the response is.

Used WebDB product on Sun Solaris and it is junk.  In fact Oracle is
desupporting
WebDB over the next six months to a year and migrating to Oracle Portal
3.0.  I have just most recently moved into an Oracle position running on
Novell Netware.  Do you know if Oracle will support Novell in future
releases and how stable is this environment ??

This is certainly not our experience with WebDB.  We have about 75
reports, many of which link to other reports for "drill-down" through
several levels, running on both Solaris 2.6 and Red Hat 6.2.  The
reports use 9 tables, and table size varies from 200,000 rows to 1.3
million rows.  Performance is good ( 1- 2 seconds) on all the reports.
We have especially liked the ease of building the WebDB reports, and
the ease of establishing access controls to the reports.  We have
written several stored procedures which allow us to link the reports
together in a very helpful way, and to place change-password and
download-as-excel-file links on each report output display.  We think
WebDB is a fine product.

Oracle has announced recently that they will be desupporting Oracle on
the Novell platform.
