01652: unable to extend temp segment

01652: unable to extend temp segment

When I try to issue a particular query from a Perl CGI script I
consistently (that is *always*) get the error message:

ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace TEMP (DBD
ERROR: OCIStmtExecute)

However, when I issue the exact same query from SQL*PLUS it runs
just fine.

Since I'm not the DBA, I can't just add diskspace to TEMP.  But
since it runs in sqlplus, I don't see why I should have to.  What
might be causing this problem?  The website is Apache and I'm using
the DBI with Perl to talk with Oracle.  Is there anything in any of
that mess of software which might cause this error message?

Any ideas?  TIA,

Jim Lyons

01652: unable to extend temp segment

Could it be that both way you've described to execute the query, involve
logging in as different users. You can assign a default and a temporary
tablespace to a user, it might be that they have different temporary
tablespaces so that may explain why one way works, and the other way
doesn't.

Reinier.

They both log in as the same user.  This is why I'm mystified.  The
error indicates that the problem is on the server so I don't suspect
anything in Perl.

But thanks anyway.
