Installing Oracle 8i on Linux 6.1

Use runIns.sh in the linux/install directory.

Check out the various Oracle/Linux howtos.

Installing Oracle 8i on Linux 6.1

Has anyone had success installing the above?

We get the message when running ./runInstaller:

%./runInstaller
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre. Please
wait...
Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
: Bad address

If anyone can shed any light on the above, I'd be most grateful.

Thanks,

Aylon

I've had success in installing O8I on RH 6.

The most important thing ...is READ THE INSTRUCTIONS .. they are
under index.html in the Oracle 8 distrubition. Some parts of the
installation has to be made 'by hand'. (Creating some new symbols,
adding a few things to PATH etc)

The second most important thing is to have a (for O8I) working JRE
installed on your machine. I think the manual says JRE 1.6, but I did
it with JRE 1.7, and it worked smooth... and .. don't forget the path
to the JRE too ........

good luck !

Let me second that.

I worked with the instructions, and various HOWTOs side by side.

The instructions are necessary, and of course wrong in spots.
The HOWTOs are a great help, but ambiguous or even misleading at times.

It took me about two days to get it installed and really understand what I
am doing with regards to the installation.

Have fun,

Jerry

Hello,

What kind of linux are you using ?? (Red hat 6.1 ??) if this is the case
chack your libc >= 2.1, then it shouldnt be a problem.
An other thing .. What kind of version jre are you using ...

I installed 8.1.5 on Debian (potato glibc.2.1 also known as "frozen")
with the jre 1.1.6 whithout any problems .

An other hint .. read the install note carefully ..

Your link to the jre is bad.  Look at it carefully and make sure is pointing
to the right directory.
