Deploying Oracle Client

 Deploying Oracle Client
newbie here seeking advice, tips etc. on the easiest way to
install/configure a client workstation for
connectivity to Oracle8. I don't want to haul the Oracle Install CD around
to each machine, so is there a "minimal installation" that I can put on the
network and install from it?

TIA

 Deploying Oracle Client

Mark-

You can always{*filter*}with a zipped type of package, but that can be a
real hassle. Why not put the installation stuff from the CD right on the
net and just run installer from the desktop? You have to mess with the
thing a bit to make it look right, but that probably is the easiest safe
path, plus you can update with new releases pretty easily.

Some people put the sql*net .dll files on a network drive and thereby
have a single place to do upgrades, but that can be a hassle when you
have to interrupt everyone at once to do the upgrade, plus you get some
real performance hits at connect time. Connections can stretch out to 60
seconds or more when they could be 2-5 seconds running from a local
drive.
