Does anyone know how the Sybase Middleware product OmniConnect deal with
VSAM files on a mainframe?  

Does the SQL server running on the Mainframe automatically know the
structure of the file some  how?
or
Does some utility on the mainframe have to be configured for each VSAM file
being accessed?
or
Is it the responsibility of the appliction program on the client machine to
know the format of the VSAM file it is accessing?

Please help!!!
