stored proc not performing action

 stored proc not performing action

Hi guys,

I have encountered a problem in the past with either 11.01 or 11.02
(can't remember which) SQL Server where executing a stored procedure
performs no action, although it appears to run and no error is
generated.  I believe it turned out to be corruption in sysprocedures,
and dropping and recreating the stored proc was the only way to fix the
problem.

A very large client is occasionally having this problem, and needs a
patch.  Large $$ is being manipulated by batch stored procs, and they
have to be able to depend on things running properly.  Can anyone tell
me what version and EBF they need to be at to avoid this sysprocedures
corruption issue?

Thanks very much, Brenda.

There was somthing similar with remote stored procedures and
dump database commands (backup server uses RPCs under the covers)
where the site handler would get corrupted; rebooting SQL Server
would resolve it temporarily.  That bug was fixed a while ago
and the fix is certainly in the current rollup (11.0.3.2).

This doesn't sound familiar to me for regular stored procedures.
Since it is so easily resolved by recreating the procedure, and as
recreating the procedure prevents further investigation, it is
quite possible the underlying problem has never been identified and
fixed.

Unless you get another answer that does identify this problem,
the best course of action is to wait for this to happen again
and then take a dump of the database before dropping and recreating
the procedure.  Then send the dump into Sybase for analysis of
the problem [assuming of course that the client is comfortable with
that].  It would also be a good idea to get them up to 11.0.3.2,
as the problem just might already be fixed.
