I am about to start a GIS project
As Sybase claim that ASE 11.5 can support Geo Spatial Data, I am
considering using
it as a GIS Database.
Does anyone knows how well does Sybase ASE 11.5 supports Geo Spatial
Data,
especially Lines and Polygon?

What are other software or middleware required?

I think that when Sybase says that ASE supports geospatial data, they
are referring to Vision Intl's Spatial Query Server engine, which has
historically been an OpenServer that sits it front of the SQL Server
and intercepts spatial SQL queries (intersects, within, ...).  With
ASE's new integration stuff, that OpenServer can be integrated directly
into the SQL Server, according to what I've read...  Sybase's web pages
(probably their Partner's web pages) will have into on Spatial Query
Server.
