Any special software options are required?

You can take a look at Rep sever Sys admin guide. It explained how to setup
there.
Of course, you will need a copy of Rep server software and two identical
machines.

Is it only one licensed copy of Rep Server software required?

well.. it is exactly what we try to find out last week because we are about
to have another rep server installed. We have some letters from Sybase and
asking our sales rep about the agreement. But... someone told me that you
will need two seats of the rep server license because you need at least two
rep servers to run replication.

hope it helps.

You will need Rep Server licenses for both nodes of the replicated system if
that is your production machine.  There are other licensing issues when you talk
about seats, etc.  I suggest you get with a rep.  They can tell you if you need
x, y, or z licencing plan.  For the setup, expect to need licencing on both
nodes for Sybase ASE, and Sybase Rep Server.  Then comes the seats.  Over all,
my experience with Sybase there has been pretty good.  They have good
competitive pricing compared to other major vendors.
