 DB-lib/Sybperl Error handler question

Got a strange question, possibly rather challenging:

I'm running a DB-library client app, which is calling a sybperl
script using the C system function.

What I'd like to do is have it so that the sybperl script "forward"
all messages received from the server to the DB-library client
that called it.

In actuality, what I want to do is to have the perl script
communicate back with the client process that started it -- so that
the client process can give an indication of the progress the
perl script is making.  It would be real nice if I could use the
Sybase server as my "message router" rather than having to write
the IPC stuff myself.

Anyone got any ideas on how to do this?  Am I crazy?

Thanks,
Ryan
