Does anybody know how to defrag a database, i think it optimizes the

Carlos, it's going to depend on what version of ASE you're running. If
you're on 11.9.2 or above you can use optdiag to check fragmentation at
the table level then run reorg on the offending tables. In pre-11.9.2
you have to drop and recreate clustered indexes on tables that are
likely to suffer fragmentation.

Eric

Eric:

If I only use APL, can I use reorg?

Thanks,
Fred.

Fred,

No, the table has to be DOL (datarows or datapages)

Eric:

Thanks for your prompt reply!

I am confused that so much message talking about optdiag and
reorg. I think a lot of people using 11.9.2 or above is just
because of SYBASE EOL. And many people still using APL for
performance consideration. Do you think APL has better
performance than DOL if no lock problem?

Any meesage will be greatly appreciated.

Fred.
