Sybase access from NT 3.5 Workstation via TCP?

Sybase access from NT 3.5 Workstation via TCP?

Hi:
We're experimenting ("tinkering") in connecting an NT 3.5
Workstation to a Sybase server via TCP/IP; we got Net-Library (and
DB-Library) for MS NT from Sybase (i.e. Open Client libraries for Windows
NT) and we are able to connect from the NT prompt via ISQL.  The problem
is that, besides running ISQL from an archaic "DOS" command line, is
extremely slow (a real turtle!).  Now, we have numerous 16-Bit MS Windows
ISQL Clients (shareware, freeware, and vendor) that we use with MS-Win
3.1 and all of them work fine when connecting to any Sybase Server via
TCP.

Nevertheless, when we try to use these 16-Bit clients from the NT
3.5 Workstation (and making sure we're loading TCP Winsock Net-Libary for
NT 3.5) we always get the error message: "DB-Library Communications
Network Library not found".  Someone from Sybase told me that most likely
we need to tweek a little bit the NT 3.5 Registry in order to make the
DB-Library DLL available for all our 16-Bit clients.

Does anyone of you have some experience connecting the way we
want? (and remember, we use the NT 3.5 Workstation as a Client to Sybase,
not as a SQL Server).  Any Info will be deeply appreciated,

Jorge C.

We've recently installed/converted several of our workstations
to NT-Workstation 3.5 and have not had any problems connecting
Windows clients to our SUN (Solaris 2.3)/Sybase 4.9.2 server.
We've have had problems trying to get our old DOS apps to
talk to SQL Server.  Because the tcp/ip stack is built into
the DOS/OS client, DB-LIB seems to have a problem supporting
tcp/ip connections under the DOS Window... Several calls to
Sybase Tech support confirmed the problem.  They said that
they were aware of the problem, and hope to have a fix in
the next 30-60 days.....Hope this helps....

I have NT workstation and I connect to NT SQL Server. For my 16 bit apps,
I need to have 16 bit db-lib (w3dblib.dll) and 16 bit net-library in the system directory.
It required no other tweaking.

Don't know about connecting to Sybase via TCP/IP, but I

Hope this helps,
Marko
