MS SQL v4.21 & Sybase 10 Compatibilty

 MS SQL v4.21 & Sybase 10 Compatibilty

I know this is a broad question but,

Since Microsoft SQL Server v4.21 was made by a Microsoft/Sybase
collaboration, how difficult would would it be to port an MS SQL v4.21 based
client server application, to Sybase 10?  Is Sybase 10 backward compatible?
What would be involved?

The Microsoft SQL 4.21 Server is running on NT
Sybase 10 is also running on NT.

Thanks,

-doug

Usually very easy.  MS 4.21 -> Sybase10 is much like Syb4.x -> Sybase10.
Sybase supply a few stored procedures to throw up illegal use of new
reserved words.  I seem to recall the Sybase10 install will upgrade an
MS4.21 server directly, alternatively you just reload schema and BCP in
data.  The only gotchas are to do with the MS-specific features that have
started to creep in such as extended stored procedures, which Sybase
doesn't have.  You might also want to revisit your setup to see if you
can make use of new Sybase10 features like cursors, numeric datatypes,
etc.  The Sybase10 install docs tell you pretty much everything you need
to know.
