Media failure, Device failure - Explanation.

Dear all,
I'm facing some problem in understanding the terms like "Device Failure"
and
"Media failure". Are they different?
Does database crashes when this happens?
Very silly doubts. could any one explain?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. Media could just be one tape/disk or part thereof, while device
could be a disk or a controller managing one or more disks.

If your database is using the devices in question, then yes, it will
either crash or report some sort of fatal or non-recoverable error
and terminate. However, if its bad tape media it might just abort
        its current tape operation.
