 Image columns

Hi all,
I have a mail merge application developed in PB and uses RTE with Sybase
system 11 as the backend. The application creates letters which then need
to be saved to the database for future referrence. I store it in image
columns. As image columns take up 2k chunks each I will surely run into
problems of disk space sooner or later.
Is anybody aware of any compression methods or for that matter any method
at all  that I can use to save me the disk space.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, 2K is the minimum allocation for text and image datatypes.
You could try keeping track of the size of the letters and store
them in varbinary fields if they are less than 256 bytes in length
otherwise put them into image fields (or you could use several
varbinary fields). You could also look at compressing the data first
(Sybase doesn't have any compression utilities). I don't know if
PB can support this. You'd probably have to incorporate some sort
of DLL which PB can use.
