why don't you use PHP with the informix-module ?  - you just have to compile
PHP with the informix-option.
(ESQL has to be installed - ClientSDK should be for free).

You have to configure PHP as follows: (look at configure --help + INSTALL.DSO)

php-source-dir/.configure (...other options) --with-informix=/opt/informix (if it is there)
(the $INFORMIXDIR must be set.)
make
make install

I prefer to build apache with dynamic module loading (mod_so).
So you can use apxs to load php into apache.
With this option, you only have to compile the modules and copy them to
the apache/libexec-directory.
-> You need not to recompile apache after changes in the modules.
see php-source-dir/INSTALL.DSO.

The Informix-LIBs should be in /usr/lib (otherwise apache cannot start up).

Hope that helps,

 Informix SE 7.2 and PHP3/ODBC

hi martin,

i was thinking about the set-up you suggested before, but there are some
reasons why i want to use odbc:

- the php/apache environment resides on another machine as the database
does (i need to access informix using tcp/ip), and
- maybe the university, im working for will need to move the application
onto an is/win nt server

thanks anywaz, oliver
