Differences between 7.31 and IDS 2000
We have Informix Online 5.10 with SCO Openserver 5.0.5 (with RAID 5)
and we are thinking about upgrade the engine (and RAID 10). What is the
right choice: 7.31 or IDS 2000? What are the essential differences
between them?
Thanks in advance.

IDS.2000, version 9.21 and later is based on the 7.31 source base so
there is not essential 'difference' between them, however, IDS.2000
adds support for datablades, user defined functions in "C" or
optionally Java, user defined indexes, user defined types, sets and
other OO constructs, external table definition so you can include
access to proprietary data sources in your queries.  If you need
these features or would like to try to take advantage of them you
should get IDS.2000.  In addition note that new features are more
likely to go into 9.xx than 7.xx in the future though there are no
announced plans to abandon the 7.xx product line it may become like
5.xx, fixes only.
