YAMAHA MOTOR CORPORATION STANDARDIZES ON ONLINE DYNAMIC SERVER IN
STRATEGIC CLIENT/SERVER MIGRATION

Agreement Will Provide Client/Server Functionality
to More Than 2,800 Users

MENLO PARK, Calif. (February 21, 1995) -- Informix Software, Inc.
(NASDAQ:IFMX), the leader in parallel processing database technology,
announced today that Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., will standardize on
INFORMIX(R)-OnLine Dynamic Server(TM) as part of its implementation of
SAP's R/3 system.  The system is part of a major migration by Yamaha from a
mainframe VSAM environment to a distributed client/server RDBMS environment
running on Hewlett-Packard T/500 multiprocessors and HP-UX application
servers.  The implementation of R/3 client/server business applications
running on OnLine Dynamic Server will provide distribution and sales order
management capabilities to the majority of Yamaha's more than 3,500 North
American dealers, as well as to users at its U.S. Headquarters in Cypress,
Calif.

The initial implementation will give Yamaha dealers across the United States
online access to inventory information that will enable them to respond
more quickly to customer requests for parts, and better manage their own
inventories.  The system will include modules for forecasting and DRP,
sales distribution, inventory management and warehouse management.

"Our decision to use Informix was based on the technical strengths of the
DSA architecture and Informix's strong relationships with our strategic
partners on this project, SAP and Hewlett-Packard," said Rich Hoffman,
vice president, Information Services Division at Yamaha.  "The synergy
between our strategic partners is critical to our smooth transition to the
client/server system that will allow us to offer our dealers the most
current information and quicker response times."

"A powerful enterprise system such as this relies as much on the partners'
ability to work together as on the high performance and scalability
inherent in the OnLine-R/3 solution," said Phil White, president and CEO
of Informix Software.  "Our long-standing relationships with both SAP and
Hewlett-Packard give us the foundation necessary for working closely to
build a finely-tuned client/server solution and resolve technical issues,
without the additional burden of organizational or cultural disconnects.
This deal is further evidence that Informix and OnLine Dynamic Server have
proven themselves to large users with mission-critical, enterprisewide
database management needs."

About Informix and SAP

The agreement with Yamaha is the latest success in the strong Informix-SAP
partnership through which SAP offers its integrated R/3 client/server
applications for manufacturing, materials management, sales and
distribution, finance and human resources, running on Informix's industry
leading parallel database technology.  Since R/3 first became available on
Informix in April, 1994, the Informix-SAP partnership has garnered 275
licensed installations worldwide supporting more than 25,000 users.  Many
of SAP's largest customers have chosen the Informix port of R/3, among
them, Motorola, Hewlett-Packard, FMC Corporation and National Semiconductor.

Informix and SAP have committed to providing the best industry-specific
consulting and support through the creation of an SAP competency team
within Informix dedicated to SAP performance and development; the
introduction of a program which provides complete, fixed-price
client/server solutions for customers who require fast turnaround; the
placement of full time Informix consultants at SAP sites in the United
States and Germany; and the formation of System Integrator Partner
Competency Centers, which offer Informix-SAP approved training for systems
integrators.
