 WWW database access

I have a problem with too many file opens and closes from my CGI to an
informix database.  Every time a user requests database access, the
database is opened, data retrieved, and then closed again.  However, too
many hits to the website cause too many open and close request to the
data base.  Is there a way to get around this problem?  Thanks for any
help in advance.

Yeah, there are several.
The concept is to have a program access the database and respond
to the queries, that way you have one connection to the database
handling the queries. It also allows for persistance of a session.

Informix had a 4GL *webkit* available from their web site.
(Mark Jeske's program?)

Others include Net Fusion, Apple/NeXT's Web Objects (The best),
Symantec's products (BUT THEY ARE SPAMMERS SO BOYCOTT THEM),
and the list goes on.... But with my altzhimers, I forget.

Take a look at JSQuery at http://www.***.com/

It maintains the number of connections you tell it to
instead of opening and closing connections for each
request. It also dramatically reduces your development
time because you just write server-parsed scripts intead
of a CGI for every form.

JSQuery is a Servlet that dynamically creates HTML from
scripts on the server. It can be used to connect to any
JDBC supported database to publish your data on the web.
