 reorganizing database
Hello,

I have some questions about reoganizing the database. What is the best
method for this (dbexport/onload ...), to which device (tape/disk), and
what time should that take. Further, is there information available on
this subject (except the white papers from Informix)

system    :    DEC Alpha 4100 (466mhz 1 GB mem)
informix    :    7.30.FC8

We are using the database for Baan IV

Thanks

 reorganizing database

Hello!

I have learned that the best way of reorganizing is dbexport to disk.

Onunload and Onload will work but the point is that you must change
manually
the files, if you would this do to disk (you can try it with a
shell-script-if interestet,
I can send you one, which will do an automatic change).

A thruput of 2 GB in about 1 hours is for dbexport a good value. For the
dbimport
think about 1,5 GB in 1 hours. (to disks....) Better results, if the disks
physically
not the same and on other controllers or cannels of an KSZPAA/B-Controller.

The onunload will make 2 GB in about 30 min, but I don't know, if the
onload will
really put the data reorganized to the disks.

Actually the best way to reorganize is often:

ALTER FRAGMENT ON TABLE <tablename> INIT IN <dbspacename>;
