 INFORMIXSERVER value not in registry

I have 2 NT servers (NT 4.0, SP6a) on the same domain, both running
online workgroup server 7.31.  I am slowly trying to transition
everything from server1 to server2.  Front end is D4gl on server1, 4Js
on server2.  I can run fine on server1.  On server2, when I try to run
anything, I get the INFORMIXSERVER value not in registry.  It is in
the registry.  It is correct.  It is set again as an environment
variable. It shows up in setnet. Ilogin runs perfectly.  Then attempts
to run dbaccess on server2 give me the dreaded "security subsystem"
error.  Informix-admin is the administrative group.  I log on as
informix...same error.  I log in as administrator.  Same error.  I log
in as myself...same error.  All 3 logins are part of the
Informix-admin group.  I don't know if these issues are related
(probably not), but wanted to bring it up.  So I give.  What does this
machine want?

Thanks.

 INFORMIXSERVER value not in registry

Hi Monica,

Couple of things come to mind for checking - don't know if they are the
cause however.

So, on server2 your 'fglprofile' file does not contain references still to
server1 does it? (Under environment stuff maybe) - could have happened if
you copied profile from one server to the other.  This could cause server2
to look to server1 and if server1 does not allow remote registry access this
could cause it maybe.

Or... I've noticed some windows apps, even when run locally on the server,
cannot access the registry. I eventually tracked this one down on our
servers to the restrictions on remote registry access.  In securing the
server the key:
"HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurePipeServers\winreg" had only
been left with SYSTEM having permissions, once administrators was added
(back) in the apps in question could access the registry again (providing
they were running in the context of administrator).  I don't understand why
they appeared to try to do 'remote' connections.   This may somehow be tied
into NULL session access also but off hand I can't recall if this is the
same key... MS Knowledge base may help here.

Good luck.

Regards,
  Bryce Stenberg.
