 7.31 UD1 to 7.31 UD5
I have been searching for a document that tells me how to go from 7.31
UD1 to 7.31 UD5 however I cannot find any.  Is it as easy as:

1.  Level zero backup
2.  copy the sqlhosts and onconfig files
3.  shutdown the database
4.  run the install for ud5
5.  start the server back up

Thanks
Jim

Check the release notes under $INFORMIXDIR/release

I'd say so.
There was a thread here recently, which you might track, that suggested that
you should do a dbexport/dbimport.  Personally I think that's bollocks, but
this was a minority view ...

See the Informix Migration Guide, page 5-19 for a detailed procedure.  The
only thing I didn't do was the onchecks on the entire database.

I just went from UC6 to UD5, make sure you UPDATE STATISTICS for your stored
procedures or you will have problems.

Also, since the upgrade I have been having problems with locks on table
sysprocplan.  Users getting SQL error -211 ISAM code -144.  You can read
about this "documented behavior" as described by IBM/Informix tech support
by going to
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=203&context=SW000&q=syspr...
uid=swg21079720&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en.

In a nutshell, if a table which is in the query plan for a stored procedure
has it's statistics updated the next user that executes the procedure will
update statistics for the procedure causing that user to hold a lock on
sysprocplan for the procedure.  It that user is in a transaction the lock is
held until work is committed or rolled back.  The equivalent of an exclusive
lock at the table level for me, since I have several procedures which are
called from triggers.  This continues to give me a great deal of grief.

There should be a migration guide with the new version, if not
look at the IBM site.  The latest UCx to UCx I did, was a stop, install,
restart.

We had a customer ignore that bit and ended up with a ITS down system
call :-))  Like Bill says RTFM !!

The amount of money oninit charges, you'd think you'd at least read the
manual for them!

Oh we are cheaper than a cheap thing:-))  Customer never told us
they were doing the upgrade, we only found out when it had failed and
downed the system.  Felt sorry for them really, 'cos they had tested it
one their dev system, same OS, same release, same database size, very
similar hardware and it worked OK.

 7.31 UD1 to 7.31 UD5

Hi,
Actually, there's no migration to speak of between 7.31.UD1 to 7.31.UD5 as
far as data structures go within the database ...

The engine triggers the migration when on checking PAGE_ZERO it finds a
different version# ...but for the migration which you are mentioning the
version# on PAGE_ZERO is the same so no migration is required by the
database.

U just need to shutdown 7.31.UD1 -- (onmode -c, onmode -kyu)
Point the INFORMIXDIR to the new binaries
Startup the instance

This should take care of the migration.

1.  Level zero backup

5.  start the server back up
