Why IDS dynamically allocate new shared memory segment

IDS is always being requiring new shared memory segment (size 33554432).
And in the end ,it shutdown with the fllowing message:

01:39:44  Assert Failed: No Exception Handler
01:39:44  Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.31.FC5

  Thread(57, sqlexec, 21085ffb8, 1)
  File: mtex.c Line: 446
01:39:44   Results: Exception Caught. Type: MT_EX_OS, Context: mem
01:39:44   Action: Please notify Informix Technical Support.
09:08:02  shmget: [EEXIST][17]: key 52564801: shared memory already exists
09:08:02  mt_shm_init: can't create resident segment

Give my some advice about how to avoid it.

Why IDS dynamically allocate new shared memory segment

Hi,

I don't know about the assert failure, but the last two lines of the
online.log you posted are saying that it can cannot create the resident
segment because it already exists. Are you getting these messages when you are
trying oninit? I guess, there are shared memory segments already exist for the
Informix server you are trying to oninit. Try to see them with ipcs command,
and if you need remove those segments using ipcrm. Be careful to make sure
that the segments you are trying to remove are from the Informix server you
are getting problems.

Regards,
Praveen.

Perhaps you don't have enough memory to allow the new segment. What causes it?
Could be a lot of things: ontape, perhaps, since it's late at night? Or an
index build?

Try running onmode -ky a couple of times to clean up any shared memory segments
left behind.

Have you changed the STACKSIZE parameter in the $ONCONFIG file? By default
it's 32 (kilobytes) (maybe larger on 64 bit platforms?)

This is just a crazy guess at a small possibility...
