Question about Backing-up using a named pipe

Hi,

Sometime ago somebody mentioned backing up the log files to a named pipe,
but they gave a very brief description of how this is done.

Could somebody offer a fuller explanation of how to implement this.

Thanks

Andy

Question about Backing-up using a named pipe

I think using a named pipe (instead of a real tape device) is not
supported by Informix.  This fact is documented in the 5.0 DBA
guide.  The difficulty in using named pipe arise when dealing
with multi-volumes operation.

I would be interested to know if this has changed in the Online 6.0
release.

Is Informix still using ontape (6.0 equivalent of tbtape) as THE
interface between the engine and the users...
