 Ontape error: Not Enough space

I sent a e-mail regarding to the error mentioned in the subject of this
e-mail today. However, when I look at if there is posting recently
send, I was unable to find my original posting.

Ok. Lets write it down again. I had a terrible day. After challenging 6
hours with ontape, I had nothing. I had to abort ontape at last.

Ontape is the winner.

How is it possible try to backup a database, if ontape insisted on
giving errors.

Let me explain my problem with ontape. I tried to backup a database
which has over 100 GB. Everthing is okay with the first DLT I inserted.
However, when it says "ok insert next tape sequence and press enter".

Then insert next DLT tape. Pressing enter. Vow. Strange error message's.

i. Sometimes it gives I/O Error. From my experience I understand that
it usually gives this error to DLT IV tapes.

ii. Sometimes it is okay with the tape and it finishes backup
successfully.

iii. The error I seen today and try to solve is "Not Enough Space". I
read postings sent previously. Checked everyting including tempdbs ( %
100 free), avaiable temp space (/tmp : also free). Any recommandation
is helpful. What kind of error message is this. When I insert a DLT 4
it says that there is an I/O error. When I insert DLT 3, it says there
is an Not Enough Space error.

I need your urgent assistance.

Best regards,

Have you remembered to change the TAPEDEV and TAPESIZE parameters? Maybe the
DLT3 is smaller than the DLT 4? I don't know, that's what system admins are
for. :-)

This is usually 'cos the TAPESIZE is set to what manufacturers say the tape
will handle.  But they occasionally lie and the tape is a couple of meters
shorter.  I normally set TAPESIZE to be 90% of claimed capacity
