How to cancel a query from PowerBuilder/I-NET 5.x

Does anyone know how to provide users with the ability of canceling a
(long) query in a PowerBuilder application running under
WFW 3.11 connected to an Informix server using I-NET?  Once rows start
coming back, we have no problem, but
once the select is started and until the first rows start coming back,
there seems to be no way out short of ALT-CTRL-DEL.
We already found the setting in INFORMIX.INI which causes I-NET to yield
control to Windows occasionally, but that alone does not seem to be doing
the trick.
