Hi,

I would like to clarify the cause of the error in the bar_act.log file
while doing ONBAR restore. We r using IDS 7.31UC7xn on Solaris 8 with
VERITAS-Netbackup Datacenter as the storage manager.

I have a Whole system Level 0 on every friday and Level 1 for the rest of
the days followed by Logical logs  since last level 0/1. Currently we r
doing serial backup which means (-w) option for both level 0 and level 1.I
tried to restore using onbar -r -p -w and then onbar -r -l.

Our whole system Level-0 backup takes 15 hrs for 200gb database and 1 1/2
hrs for  Level-1. Our whole system Level-0 restore takes about 12 hrs.

Lets take this scenario for which i thought its possible and it didnt happen
that way.My requirement is to restore the PRD data as of sat. evening to the
TST server  before my deadline sat. night. Lets assume that today is
friday. Here is the scenario. We will perform application maintenance on
Saturday morning on PRD which will finish by sat. evening and then take a
Level-1 on PRD to capture the recent changes  which should be subsequently
restored on to TST server.

We have 2 tape drives out of which 1- for Database backups & other server
backups on a scheduled basis , 1- for continous logs. In order to do utilize
the tape resources efficiently, I planned to meet my deadline in the
following way.

1) Stop the regular Friday evening Level -0 backup on PRD for this week so
that i can utilize the tape drive for restore to TST during that time.
2) Restore previous Friday's Level-0 on to the TST server so that it will
complete by Saturday morning.
--At this point, my TSTsystem will be ready with Last week's Level 0
data thru which i saved enormous time instead of starting the whole
      restore by saturday evening.
3) After the application maintenance is over in PRD, trigger the Level-1 on
PRD to capture the recent changes.
4) Restore that Level-1 on to TST server so that TST is to upto date with
PRD.

My query
-------------
1) In order to perform the above Step-4, i took a copy of the ixbar file
from PRD as soon as the Level 1 got over. I delete all entries in the file
except the Level-1 and the successive logs entries.I placed the altered
ixbar file to the TST server. I initiated the Level 1 restore by saying
"onbar -r -w".It throws me an error in bar_act log saying "There are no
DBSPACE/BLOBSPACE backups to restore".What could have gone wrong here ?

2) Could it be due to the non-availabilty of Level-0 information on the
ixbar file since i deleted the entries ?
    -- I deleted the level-0 entries bcos i dont want a level-0 restore to
be done again which defies my deadline.

3) Cant the ONBAR is not flexible enough to perform Level-1 alone be
restored separately without level-0 restore happen again ?

4) If so, why cant i perform a separate level-1 restore without a level -0
as i have already restored the correct Level-0 and the system is still in
recovery mode ?

Any suggestions/comments r appreciated.
