INFORMIX AND BAAN=20
ACHIEVE RECORD BENCHMARK RESULTS

1,510 Users Is Highest Baan Result

MENLO PARK, Calif. (April 23, 1996) -- Informix Software, Inc.,=20
(NASDAQ: IFMX) the leading provider of innovative database technology,=20
and Baan Company today announced a 1,510 user TRITON 3.1 client/server=20
benchmark.  This is the highest Baan result achieved on any platform with=20
any database, and is almost double Oracles 800-user result achieved in=20
the same hardware configuration. =20
=09
The results were obtained using the INFORMIX(R)-OnLine Dynamic=20
Server(TM) database running on Hewlett Packard servers.  The benchmark was=
=20
run on a UNIX=AE-system based 4-way HP9000 Model K420 with 2 GB main=20
memory.  Informix was the only database vendor able to take advantage of=20
Baan's optimized client/server mode which offloads Baan application and=20
driver processes from the server to the client.  The combination of HP-UX=20
10.10, TRITON 3.1a, and INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server 7.2 creates a=20
superior environment for customers seeking high performance and=20
scalability. The tests were performed at HPs performance lab in=20
Boeblingen, Germany with participants from the Baan Holland Benchmarking=20
Center, the Informix Application Benchmarking team, and HPs performance lab.
=09
Baan's TRITON 3.1 benchmark consists of user activities such as=20
sales order entry, purchase order entry, item and bill-of-materials=20
maintenance, supplier data querying and shop floor order processing. =20
Response time criteria for each activity are used to determine the=20
maximum number of concurrent users on the system.
=09
The results give customers an important planning point of=20
reference for proving the ability of Baan, Informix, and HP to run a=20
customers entire enterprise.
 =09
"These results demonstrate Informix and Baan's commitment to=20
delivering superior performance to meet the needs of  large enterprise=20
customers," said Rocky Gunderson, vice president of marketing at Baan=20
America.  "We're e{*filter*}d about the benchmark results, which are the highest=
=20
Baan benchmarks achieved on any database and any platform."
=09
"These outstanding benchmark results demonstrate Informix and=20
Baan's commitment to providing unmatched real-world performance," said=20
Steve Sommer, vice president of marketing at Informix.  "Informix has=20
invested in optimizing the OnLine Dynamic Server for Baan customers and=20
has demonstrated the benefits of a scalable architecture to meet the most=20
demanding needs of Baan customers."
