Invalid Sequence Number errors

 Invalid Sequence Number errors
I have developed an application using paradox v5.0 that requires the
sequence number off of a tableframe.  the tableframe is bound to a detail
table.  When I try to retreive the sequence number it usually returns (-1)
and when I first enter a record it returns (0).  the code looks something
like this:

RecNum = DetailTable.seqno

Is it possible to return the sequence number of a detail table?  I can't
see why it wouldn't be.

Confused and in need of help,
 Curt

Hi Curt

It sounds to me you've got a genfilter on your detail table. That
explains the -1; with a filter on it always return -1. New records will
always be zero because they're not 'posted' until you leave the record or
issue a postrecord command.

Hmm, no I didn't use genfilters anywhere in this form at all.  Could it
be that, because it is a detail table, it is acting like a genfilter has
been placed on it?

What I was doing with the 'seqno' property was getting it when the record
was first posted in a tableframe and then checking it later when the
Arrive method was called in the tableframe's record object.  if the two
'seqno's were equal I would set the property of some of the fields in
that record to 'readonly = false' so I could allow the user to View all
the records in the table, but only edit one.  The problem with this
method was that the two seqno's were always equal because they would
always return '-1'.  Is there another way to allow editing of only one
record in a tableframe.  It would get complex if I tried to compair the
key fields (to have the same effect as compairing the 'seqno's),because
there are many.  Or is there a way to get the seqno of the table (Should
I just add an autoincrement field?).

Thanks for your help,
 Curt

Curt, I re-checked just to be sure. '-1' indicates you have a filter on
that TABLE. It could have been put on it anytime and if you don't go and
check you might never know it except for '-1'. Remember, the filter is on
the table not tableframe. Best way to be sure there aren't any filtering
is to put a dropgenfilter in the open method of the tf.
