Disk thrashing in PDOXDOS 4.5

 Disk thrashing in PDOXDOS 4.5

I have problems with Paradox thrashing the disk for long periods of time on an
irregular basis.  I can never be sure when it will happen, running the same
script and doing the same actions again will sometimes cause thrashing and
other times not.

I am using a 386 DX with 8 Mb RAM on a Novell network with Windows using a
swap file of 2 Mb and SmartDrives's cache set at 26114.  Once the script is
running and the tables are open on the workspace, Paradox reports:

MEMLEFT()=122704
RMEMLEFT()=327680
EXTENDED MEMORY=62266880

Any ideas of how to tackle this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

John

Add another 8Mb. Seriously, I ran a test of a workstation with 8MB on
a Novell Netware lan, in which everything, Windows files, Paradox files,
Private directory, Working Directory were located somewhere on the lan.
In otherwords, nothing should occur on the local drive. Well, with 8Mb,
loading forms caused severe thrashing. But, after adding another 8Mb,
it virtually ceased.

With only 8Mb, make sure your disk cache is less than .5MB.
