Editing PDOX 5.0 Tables on WFWG Network - Help!
Hi,

Is there a way for two or more users to edit the same PDOX 5.0 table
over a WFWG network without using the quirky SUBST <virtual drive>
<network control file directory> command in the server's AUTOEXEC.BAT?
Using the DOS SUBST command requires that the server run in 16-bit File
Access mode - very discouraging and rediculous.
   All responses welcome.  Thanks.

The answer is probably NO, since Paradox requires the NET file to be the
SAME PATH for every one, and your SUBST probably maps the "network
control directory", which contains the NET file.

I dont believe i am using the SUBST command in my WFW network to interface everyone with the
data files on a common PC. In the IDAPI configuaration i have set everyone to the common
directory on the common computer. On some machines it is I:\netdir, on others it is d:\netdir,
but they all point to the SAME directory. Its just that when we connect a network drive to the
common files computer, you have a choice of what drive letter to use in WFW, it doesnt appear
to make any difference what letter you use.

I do have a problem though when using different letters, but its not multi-user related. When
an OLE object is saved into a field, it apparently keeps the current PATH and filename, if you
try and run the same form on another computer with a different drive letter but same directory
for the files, it cant find the OLE file. The only way around that is rename the file, or
create another network drive with the right drive letter. Any way to save an OLE path with
:WORK: in the path, so it substitutes the CURRENT pathname in it?

But as far as using tables, SUST is not necessary with WFW3.11 and PARADOX 5.0. Im using files
on the network and sharing with others, but no SUBST command in my autoexec.bat.

This was true in versions in Paradox for Windows before version 5, but in
version 5 the use of the same drive letter is not required - they just have
to all point to the same physical location.
