 P4WIN 4.5 Developer's Ed.
Can somebody please tell me what are the differences between the Developer's
edition and the Workgroup edition of Paradox for Windows 4.5. I have heard
that the developer's edition has a help compiler and the Resource Workshop,
not great if you have a Borland compiler! Specifically, does the developer's
edition have a runtime version of Paradox for Windows 4.5.

Thanks

Abdul.

Abdul,

The Developers Edition of Paradox for Windows has everything from the
WorkGroup Edition plus the following:

Developers Toolkit - collection of very useful code and forms etc.
SQL Tools Object PAL source code - allows customizing the interactive
SQL Tools from theWork Group Edition
Resource Workshop - for customizing PFW resources, icons, etc.
Windows Help Compiler
Object PAL Reference Guide

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I missed the first part of this thread, but, Is there any such thing
out there as a run-time version of P4WIN? How do you get it?
Does it run any faster?

Thanks for the good info.

Well, of course everyones needs are going to be different and the Dev.
Edition may not be the best deal for you.  Resource Workshop was at the
latest version from BC++ 3.1 when the Dev Edition was released.  There is
a new RW in the new BC++ 4.0.  I'm sure that PFW Dev Edition will be
upgraded but I'm not sure when.

which seems to me a long-superseded version, called "special edition"
but it looks like an early edition of Res Workshop 3.0. date 23/7/92 !

The Developers' ed of Paradox bought only in December comes with this
version of the Workshop, and in January Borland shipped Res Workshop
ver 4.0 with the new C++ compiler. Can anyone tell me if the Resource
Workshop from the C++ package is supposed to be the same as the one in
        the Pdx package? - i.e. i

============= In my opinion, the only really useful item in the
Developers' Ed! Can be bought separately.
(Sorry - didn't mean to be polemic, it just seems
a lot of dough for very little extra)

My opinion only, no harm meant to honourable Borland and I am not representing
my employers either!

The copy of the dev's edition that I got came with the older (1.x (think it was 1.2)) version of RWS. I believe they did this because the dev ed. shipped before the new versions of BC.

There is a distributable runtime available for $495. The runtime is NOT
included in the developer's edition. You can get it by calling Borland's
sales # which I don't remember offhand.
