 Client32 DOS and Paradox

I've been having trouble with Paradox 4.5 querying tables on a Netware
4.1 server. The query script fails and the workstation eventually hangs
when using Client 32 for DOS (2.12), but CTRL-ALT-DEL shuts down
Client32 & reboots. This problem does not occur using VLMs or Client32
with Win95.
The problem only appears after some time, normally about 40 mins,  so it
looks like resources are being exhausted somewhere, but the network
connection remains intact.
I've tried turning packet burst & caching off, as well as stopping the
servers compression. Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

From what you say, you are one of the LUCKY ones to get Paradox DOS to
run under client 32 for more than the first time (and that was
SHaKEY).
My experience was that you could not even Start a session of paradox
after you had shut/crashed the first one unles you COLD booted.

It doesn't work with client-32. We determined this empirically by
running trials. I'm not sure of the cause but there is some sort of
curruption of the net driver on the client - it "loses" mappings to net
drives. Many others on the newsgroup have had the same experience.

One of our large installations had to go back to 16 bit Net drivers.
Fortunately the network is 98% used for the Pdox app so the lack of
performance in Win is not an issue for them. This is the first serious
technical issue we have come across for legacy DOS 4.5 systems. It would
be nice to bring the technology up to date but you can't just re-write a
core system someone has spent in seven figures on over the years.

 Client32 DOS and Paradox

There has been discussion here of problems with Paradox with Client32 for
Netware.

I have had trouble trying to access Paradox files with ODBC, but without
actually using Paradox. There is a database table containing address
information; the table is in Paradox format, although actually maintained
by a program written in Borland Delphi.

If the table is on a local hard drive, address information can be mailmerged
into a MS Word document, using MS Query as filter.

When trying to access the same table from a Netware directory using
different versions of Netware (3.12, 4.1) and MS Office (Office 95 and 97),
problems arise. Various error messages have been displayed; typically "a
DDE connection cannot be established". The only successful attempt was
when starting Windows 95 in safe mode with network access. ODBC kit 3.5 was
used throughout.

Previous attempts using Windows fWg 3.11. VLMs, MS Office 4.3 also failed;
that may have been due to errors in earlier ODBC drivers.

Any ideas? Is this related to problems described here as due to the Paradox
_program_?

Best wishes,

 Client32 DOS and Paradox

We've been running Paradox 4.5 for DOS successfully with Wincodws 95
and both Client32 and VLMs for about a year.

However, we've discovered on our newest machines (Win95B) and on
machines that have had the Windows 95 upgrade applied that Paradox
scripts can no longer execute DOS commands.
