Paradox Engine in 16 bit DPMI

We're using Borland's Paradox Engine in 16 bit DPMI application along with
TurboVision compiled in Borland's C++ 4.5. This application is intended
for use on a Novell network. We have a problem when we try setting the
network directory for the application however. To use the engine in
protected mode, we had to link the Paradox Engine's Windows DLL and use
the Windows initialization commands. This DLL expects the
defaults(including the network directory ) to be setup in WIN.INI. However
since this is not a windows application, the program doesn't even look for
WIN.INI and automatically uses it's internal defaults. Any ideas? Are we
missing something somewhere? Any help would be appreciated!
