P7 script hangs as at job

P7 script hangs as at job

I have a batch file that runs on my NT4 Server each night. It runs Paradox
7 3 times, each time with a different script, to perform various updates
and checks on several tables. The batch file is registered with "at" to run
in non-interactive mode as "cmd /c d:\admin\nightly.cmd".

After making some changes which I think I've undone, P7 is now{*filter*} the
first time it runs. I can see it in memory using Task Manager but there's
no disk activity and a query of the BDE shows that the only BDE user is the
query program (something I wrote in C using raw BDE calls), as if the P7
job is not connected to the BDE.

The main change I originally made was to change the choice of BDE config
file. Originally the system ran using a private BDE config file that caused
the update scripts to access tables through a local drive letter. I changed
this to use the public config file that sets aliases to use a network share
mounted on a drive letter used consistently by all workstations and started
seeing hangs that I could only clear by killing the P7 process. (The NT
scheduler normally runs as the System user who has no network privilege. I
changed it to run as a special pseudo-user with network privileges.) I
changed back to the old BDE config but I'm still seeing a hang in the first
P7 invocation.

The batch file works fine if I run it interactively from the command
prompt. It only hangs when run as a non-interactive at job.

My next test will be to run the job from a workstation at job.

Any suggestions on what might be going wrong? Any settings I should look
at?

Kenneth,

First, I would try and set the scripts up to run sequentially. Why start
and stop pdox 3 times if you don't have to?

As for your specific problem, perhaps changing the cfg switched the
registry to want to default to the cfg you found problematic. Perhaps
you should try starting Pdox with the -o switch to specify the cfg you
want to use. Or check the registry switches to see if the one you don't
want to use can be removed from any references.
