 autoincrement field with duplicates!

Paradox 7 32bit, BDE 3.5. Found this today at a customer site running
Runtime (with latest patch), the table I'm referring at, has a autoincement
field as a part of a combined index and there was several duplicates of the
numbers in the autoinc field. This customer is running on a NT4 server and
the workstations are NT351 and NT4 all using NTFS. All ideas are welcomed.

AutoIncrement fields were added in 5.0 because non-programmers
were asking for it, but, as has been pointed out in this group
in the past, it is not reliable.

There are many ways to create unique key values programatically,
some of which are discussed in the manuals that come with Paradox.
Use a little ObjectPAL and do it yourself, or get assistance from
someone who programs in ObjectPAL.

Run table repair
Restructure the field as a longInt
Restructure again back to autoincrement

If the autoincremented field is part of a primary key in a master table
you made major design mistake (they should never be used that way) and
you will pay a heavy price fixing the records in the detail table(s).

Ouch!  I had this happen with an AI field a couple years ago...I
calculated with OPAL for the field's values and the problem disappeared.
I'm kinda leery of using AI fields unless it's a single table app.  Hope
this helps.
