How do I turn off caching on NT4 W/S ?

How do I turn off caching on NT4 W/S ?
I am having problems with PDOX4DOS on NT Workstations. My tables are on a
unix system, which used to be OK, but now I'm using NT instead of DOS, I am
having problems with corrupted tables.

The problems are fewer and further between if I don't use the -share option
starting Pdox, but then my user's can't share tables properly.

I'd like to enable the -share option, but it's just too dangerous as long as
NT is caching everything.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHICH REGISTRY ENTRIES ARE USED TO DISABLE CACHING?????

the -share command line switch is to allow pdoxdos to "share" with other apps on
the local drive.. it has absolutely nothing to do with the network sharing at
all..

Thanks for the info.

The page covers Oportunistic Locking. Is this the same thing as Caching?

I mustn't be reading it correctly then. I can only see entries relating to
OpLocks. In fact, for Workstations (which is what I am dealing with), there
is only one Registry entry listed.

My server is non-NT (UNIX), so I'm not even sure if any of this is relevant.

Am I mis-reading this?

Cache and Lokes are 2 different things that can caus 1 BIG problem
(munged data).
Either can exist without the other (but IMHO neither should).

Cacheing could exist at either end (w/s or server OR BOTH).
It can occur in many places(pc, network transport or server).
What is important for your DATA is that the DATA and Locks be written
to disk before anything else is allowed to use that data or lock.

bear in mind that 99% of the stuff that they discuss there is simply
common-sense logic that goes all the way back to pdoxdos multi-user apps
on dos networks.. with the appropriate complications of windows/bde and
multiple versions of each..

Thanks. That seems to be what I was looking for. There is a Registry entry
for "UtilizeNtCaching" for the workstation. That sounds like just the
ticket!

It does state that the registry settings apply to machines which run the BDE
or hold database files. Does a Workstation running Pdox4.0DOS qualify? I'll
be trying it anyway.

Because my server is not NT, I doubt whether OpLocks are in use - the
Microsoft explanation of this seems to indicate that it requires NT as WS
and server to make it work. I'll turn them off anyway....

Thanks again to you and the Steves...

Hopefully I won't be bothering you again!

The registry entries listed in this article seem to be what I am looking
for.

Thanks again for your help.
