How to emulate a list of results, without list-view

Hello everybody,

Although some people have already tried to help me extenisely (thank you
Bridget!), I still haven't figured out how to solve my problem. That's why I
am posting it again. Maybe some other people can also take a look at it, and
let me know what they think.
People who have already seen it, might just have a new idea that they want
to share. I am open to everything. Here goes:

My database is about the Chamber of Commerce. It is going to be on a CDROM.
This CDROM opens with a field, that has some buttons on it, to go to several
layouts. There is also a search field on the first page. This "QuickSearch"
field is used for people who want to search for a company name right away.
The script this field uses is:

Set Error Capture [On]
Enter Find Mode [Pause]
Perform Find[]
If ["Status(CurrentError) = 401"]
    Beep
Show Message ["No records match your search request. Please try again."]
Else
    Go to Layout ["ResultPage"]
End If

This QuickSearch field is defined as a relative field, that points to the
company names database.
When I enter a search in this field, it nicely redirects me to the
resultpage layout and shows me the results. I get them all underneath each
other. But this is only because I use a "list-view". And with a list-view I
cannot put a background image (that doesn't repeat itself). So, how do I
make a search result page, that has all the entries that match the search
request under neath each other, with a fixed backgroun image on the back? I
think I'd have to use a portal, but not sure how.

That's where the whole problem lays. Every layout has been designed already
and I got pictures of those. This means I need to use a background image,
but in list view it won't work (or am I doing something wrong?).  The image
will repeat itself for every result. I don't want that...

I am hoping I explained everything clear, because it is kinda complicated to
say it correct I think.
Any help would be highly appreciated!

Sincerely,
Marc de Winter

You mention the possibility of using a portal to display the list.  On what
criteria are people searching on?  Can that be used as the basis for your portal
relationship?  If not, you can take your found set of records, go to a listview
screen with nothing on it but the primary key for each record, use the copy all
records step to copy and those IDs and then paste into a global that would be
the left-side of your portal relationship.
