Choose Value List item and run a script

Hi All

I know I can make a field a button - so when the user clicks the field
a script will run. But when this field is displayed as a value list,
how can you select a radio button with the click and then run the
script. I have tried the pause function, no joy, looked up scriptology
and a few other books too. Is there a trick I am missing???

Hope someone can help.

(please email as well as post to the NG, as the feed isn't always
reliable.)

Invisible buttons, over the radio buttons which 1) set the value of the
field and 2)perform the script based on the choice.

The pause function actually will work with pop up menus. Here's an example:

Say you have a field "PopUp" that is formatted as a pop-up menu, turn it
into a button and assign it this script:

Allow User Abort [Off]
Go to Field ["PopUp"]
Pause/Resume Script ["0:00:00"]
Exit Record/Request
# follow this with what ever you need

This is a kludge but it works; for what ever reason the pause will extend
till the user makes a selection. Here are some limitations: the kludge ONLY
works with pop-up MENUs. This technique is best suited for use on layouts
where the status bar is hidden because when the script pauses for user input
the "continue" option button will appear in the status bar- this won't mess
any thing up but it looks ugly and confusing. Lastly, you need to remove the
pop-up menu's field from the layout's tab order because tabbing in or out of
the field and changing the value through the keyboard won't trigger the
script.

You can drop the "kludge" disclaimer.

This is a great way to run a script when selecting a value in a field!  I
remember you posting it before but never tried it.  I just realized I had a
spot where it would be handy and it works perfectly!

Thanks!!!
