Filemaker Pro 5.0 vs 5.5 and FMDeveloper 5.0 vs 5.5

1.  What are the major differences in: Filemaker Pro 5.0 vs 5.5??

2.  What are the major differences in: Filemaker Developer 5.0 vs 5.5 ??

3.  Will FM Developer 5 work with FMP 5.5 ???

4.  If one already has FMP5 installed and gets FMP5.5 full version (not an
updater version),  does any pre work such as uninstalling FMP5 need to be done
prior to installing the newer FMP5.5 ??

5.  Will any of this affect an installed version of FMP3 which so far works just
fine along with FMP5 installed.

Do a little homework, dude. Go to
http://www.filemaker.com/products/index.html and select the product
you're interested in. On the detail pages, FM gives you the option to
choose your CURRENT version, and then gives you a rundown of all the
improvements since then.

Yes, though problems have been reported in 5.5 files bound or having the
name changed with the earlier Dev version.  Obviously, no 5.5 features
are supported by the 5.0 runtime engine.

No. You can run both on the same machine. Be aware that running both at
the SAME TIME can cause problems on Windows, if TCP/IP is selected as
the network protocol, as they both use the same network binding. Running
them at separate times causes no problems.  On Mac (answering would be
easier if we knew your platform) generally the most recent version will
be called by double-clicking on any file icon. Opening the earlier
version of the app needs to take place manually.  Just be careful which
version you're working in.

5.0 files which are opened in 5.5 may have problems later with field
name editing, cloning or other issues when returned to 5.0 or when
renamed using the Dev Ed. I have not seen these problems personally, but
they have been reported.

No. You can run FMP 3 alongside any later version.

WOW -- what a great, courteous and full response.  Thank you very much. And btw,
I did check out that compare feature you mentioned.

I've been a filemaker fan and on again off again user since version 2.  For some
other reasons, I was forced to migrate from MAC to PC about 2 years ago :-(.

I am not a heavy user, but do occasionally create this or that simple DB.
Amazing how rusty one gets after non/use for 9 months or a year.  I've even had
to explore Access.  Of course, I still much much prefer FMP, especially for my
limited needs.

AGAIN - thank you so very much for your thoughtful response!
