HELP - margins cutting off text in long layout

All,

I have a multi-user database (hosted by FM Server 3 on a Mac) that has a
multipage report layout meant for printing that has to accomodate wildly
varied lenghts of texts in a couple of fields.  One field  in particular
may have 1 paragraph or 2 pages of text.  The layout has a cover page
that fits a single page, followed by fields allowing very long text.
The layout crosses a number of page breaks.  The users may be printing
numerous records, so the Body is set to break after after 1 occurance
and restart page numbers after each occurance.

The problem is that sometimes the text appearing at the top or bottom of
a page is broken across the page; i.e., the top half of the letters
appear at the bottom of one page while the bottom half of the letters
appear at the top of the next page.  The users are printing to a variety
or printers.  I have tried clicking allowing breaks versus no allowing
breaks to no avail.

Any ideas?

HELP - margins cutting off text in long layout

While in layout mode on the layout in question, hold down the Option key
and go to Layout Setup... in the Mode menu.  A checkbox called New Break
will appear that is not normally on the Layout Setup screen when not
holding the Option key.  Try checking this box.  It does not work for all
situations, or so I have heard, but it has always worked for me.

HELP - margins cutting off text in long layout
It's a real problem, one I struggled with for months (and not alone I assure
you). The new break option does not always work but in my experience worked
better on Macs than windows. Anyway, I eventually had to solve it by creating
one long merge field and now the page breaks are always OK. I've been sorta
complaining to Claris about this for years and they keep promising fixes but
have to my knowledge never delivered. Good luck. There's another work around
which is tedious involving setting everything at 16 pixel increments, but
believe me, you don't want to go there.
