Time limited logoff for FMP5 on Windows
I'm a Mac familiar computer user: Could anyone tell me how I could
limit the use of a FMP5 database on a Windows machine to a
predetermined time (eg 15 mins) after which the program would
automatically quit? Doing this from within FMP doesn't seem the most
elegant or easy solution

Thanks

Why do you need this functionality? That info would help greatly.
If this is a "demo" program, most people just have every (major or
naviagtion) script call a "Time Check" script...then whenver the user pushes
a button to do something, the timecheck script gets checked, and the file
gets closed if the time < 15 minutes.  It doesn't close in 15 minutes all by
itself... but you can't get more than 15 minutes worth of work out of it so
its usually an adequate solution.

Locking down a demo is considerably more involved than this though, as you
typically want to remove all access to the passwords, script definitions,
etc via the developer tool. Which means that the app has to run entirely on
a scripted navigation interface.

I was after a solution which would limit use independent of  user
interaction. In fact, I would prefer the program to respond to inactivity.
(In answer to you question, this is for a runtime program which would be
available on a server. If the program wasn't logged off, no one else could
use it.) Anything you can think of?

There are a number of schedule plug-ins that let you set the time a script
will execute. It would be easy to write a startup script to schedule the
shutdown script 15 minutes from the "current time"... provided you had the
plug-in, of course.
The link to plug-ins at filemaker.com should provide you with a number of
alternate plug-ins for the task.
Hope that helps.
