Accessing a shared file hosted by FileMaker Server 5

Accessing a shared file hosted by FileMaker Server 5
I have FileMaker Server 5 and access files via the host button within
FileMaker Pro 5.0

Does anyone know how to access files that are hosted by FileMaker Server 5.0
via an Icon (shortcut) from within Windows?  I would think the icon's
command line would look something like:

"c:\program files\ filemaker\filemaker pro 5\FileMaker Pro.exe" 10.0.0.12
filename.ext

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Don't do it. Use the Hosts button.  Conflicts between OS sharing and
Filemaker sharing protocols will lead to corruption and instability in
your files.

To make access easier, create a small opener file which lives on each
desktop, with a default opening script to open the hosted files PROPERLY
through the hosts button.  To a user, these files are indistinguishable
in function from a shortcut.

Oh yeah..and turn off that OS filesharing on the host machine!!!

You misread his suggestion. He was thinking of a way to tell the FileMaker
application on the client machine to connect to the host to open the file, not
open the file directly using File sharing. I'm not sure if there is a way to do
it using the command line without an opener file.

I agree. This is the easiest method and works well.

It has got nothing to do with filemaker but with your network
find the file you want to use, using the explorer on your PC and create a
shortcut on your desktop (or elsewhere)
Each time you double-click the shortcut, the filemakerdatabase will be
started.
It works for me (with ipx and tcp/ip - protocols)

Don't do this. It is very very bad. Your database will go down in flames.
