Select same field in database?

 Select same field in database?

Hi!

I've got the following question/problem:

I have a database with - say 50 persons in one mainfile.
If you click on the button "books", it opens another filemaker-file
and goes to the person that you selected in the mainfile.

Now you can enter e. g. the title of a book, the publishing year, etc.
If you click on the button "New set of data" I want a new set to be
created, but only for the person that was selected in the mainfile.
So the field "name" in the bookfile has to be fixed and it has to
contain the name of the person that you had selected in the mainfile,
when you clicked on the button "books".

Do you have a solution for me?

Thank you in advance!

 Select same field in database?

just add in you script under the button 'books' a 'copy field 'name''
command, then write a subscript in the file 'book' where you paste it in
the appropriate field, and call this subscript also under your button
'books'

 Select same field in database?
Your question is a little convoluded, but I think I get it.  When select the
"books" button in the main file have it set a global field with the name or the
id number that you use for the relation.  Then when you activate the "New set
of data" button have it fill out the appropriate fields with the information
stored in the global field.

cheers
